FUNGI AS YOUR FUTURIST is a first-of-its kind playbook for regenerative futures, inspired by nature’s intelligence.

If we are to solve some of humanity’s most radical challenges, we need radical new ways of thinking. Fungi show us new (ancient) ways to think about our role in shaping regenerative futures for humans, our more-than-human kin and our Earthly home.

Through 12 fungi-inspired design principles, we explore how to reimagine systems, brands, products — or just play for fun(gi) — because joy doesn’t need a reason.

This work subverts the status quo, prompting its reader to assess how we relate to nature, futures, fungi, rot and regeneration. It challenges the human–nature disconnect at the root of our ecocidal activities. It empowers us to (re)claim agency over our futures, and inspires fresh, nature-centric ways of thinking.

Part manifesto, part toolkit, Fungi as your Futurist is enriched by 18 leading global voices from mycology to foresight and multidisciplinary design. We decode why fungi are the ultimate systems thinkers and a great accomplice in shaping good futures.

Just like nature is an event that is happening (not a static thing), this work is open for evolution, to be manifested in a 2nd (possibly 3rd!) edition.

WHY HAVE WE DONE THIS? For inspiration, and for impact. We hope to inspire regenerative agency in how our peers approach foresight, design and futures work. We hope to inspire action in the corporations we consult with, who have the power to re-design regenerative, life-centric products, brands and innovation.
